An installation for purifying air in streets provided with an underground drainage system comprises a plurality of extraction fans 17, each located above an air trap 14 to withdraw air from the streets through drainage openings and side channels and along the main channel 11 in the direction of arrow 13 through a chamber 16 above the air trap and further along the main channel to discharge points, a partition 15 extending below the bottom 12 of the channel to ensure that the air trap remains sealed in dry weather. In a second embodiment the air is returned to the street through electrostatic filtering devices (19).
