Galloping vibrations in an overhead transmission line are suppressed by securing an elongate element 1 to the conductor 3, in a span between suspension points without freedom of movement relative to the conductor, such that the element extends along the conductor on one side only of its axis and is disposed in the plane of the conductor, i.e. the plane containing the curve assumed by the conductor between its suspension points. The element may be attached to the conductor by clips 2 and may be, for example, of rectangular, T-shaped, triangular or annular cross-section, Figs. 2-7 (not shown). The element aerodynamically alters the distribution of air flow around the conductor to suppress the galloping.
