摘要
In attaching a dental prostheses directly to the bone two pins are driven in obliquely so that their protruding ends are close to each other and the prostheses is secured to these by a hardening cement or resin. The pins are of inert material, are cylindrical over at least the portion which enters the bone have a length of between 12 and 35 mm. and have a diameter between 0.3 and 2.5 mm. Normally holes of slightly smaller diameter than the pins are first drilled in the bone and the pins are subsequently driven in but, in a modified form, the end of the pin has cutting edges to serve as a drill and is left in position after it has reached the desired depth. The pins are preferably made from tantalum wire, drawn cold, but they may be made partly or wholly of suitable synthetic resin and may have shaped heads at their outer ends to facilitate gripping and to provide a more positive anchorage for the prostheses.
