SPINNERET ASSEMBLY FOR SPINNING HIGHLY VISCOUS POLYMERIC SUBSTANCES

Synthetic polymer filaments including conjugate filaments, are made by melt-spinning polycondensation products through a spinneret plate 3 having a plurality of orifices 24 with their outlet openings at one side of the spinneret, each orifice being provided with an enlarged inlet 23, said inlets being connected to a system of branched channels 26 inside the spinneret plate substantially parallel to the surface thereof, and which system is connected to at least one feed inlet 19 for the molten material. The invention includes an apparatus comprising a pumping system and the spinneret plate described and includes at least one filter 5 for the molten material, said filter being situated between the pumpirg system and the spinneret plate. The spinneret plate may form the wall of a chamber, usually the bottom wall, through which a heating liquid is passed. Figs. 1 and 2 illustrate apparatus using a circular spinneret plate Fig. 3 illustrates a rectangular spinneret plate.
