The output signal of the transmitter represents the momentary advancing speed of the tool and/or the workpiece. Should the monitoring circuit detect a decrease in speed by a certain amount then a control signal is generated which brings about a corresp. reduction in the speed of advance. The momentary speed of advance is represented through the voltage level of a direct potential signal supplied to a level supervisory circuit. Until a precise determinable min. speed is attained during the start of the advancing drive, the level supervisory circuit is inoperative. The control unit can be applied to any machine tool independently of the kind and direction of advance.
