Unfired chrome/magnesia bricks are prepared by mixing chromite with magnesite, sintered magnesite or other magnesium compounds yielding MgO on firing, shaping, sintering at at least 1750‹ C. and thereafter mixing in granular form with 0À0-0À7% of a boron compound calculated as B 2 O 3 and moulding into bricks with the addition of a binder. Boric acid is the specified boron compound. The binder may be sintered magnesite. The moulded mixture may contain dried sulphite cellulose waste liquor and a solution of kieserite.
