[Also in Division D1] Relates to means for traversing a carriage to- and-fro on a textile spinning frame or other textile processing machine, the carriage carrying, e.g. a detector device for detecting and indicating the position of any broken yarn ends, threads or the like. Referring to the drawing the carriage 2 is slidable or movable by wheels on a tubular rail 1 extending across the machine at the level of and slightly to the rear of that part of the machine frame which extends between the nip of the front spinning rollers and the guide twizzle. Within the tube 1 is a free piston 5 in the form of a permanent round bar magnet with end sealing washers 6. The magnet 5 coacts with a magnet 10, or piece of soft iron, on the carriage 2, so that the latter will follow movements of the piston. The piston is reciprocated back and forth by oil pressure in a circuit comprising a pump 3, reservoir 4 and a solenoid-operated change-over valve 9 under the control of magnetic reed switches 7, 8 at the ends of the tube 1. In alternative forms the switches may reverse the pump and may comprise spring-pressed rods extending from the ends of the tube 1.
