1,150,844. Electro-phoretic coating. DEUTSCHESOLVAY-WERKE G. m. b. H. March 14, 1967 [March 29, 1966], No. 11989/67. Heading C7B. A metallic object, particularly a moving aluminium strip having surface oxide film for transformer construction, is electro-phoretically coated or lacquered by immersion in an aqueous lacquer bath comprising a synthetic resin diluted or emulsified in water at 27-32‹ C. at an electrode voltage of 118-155 volts and with the distance between the electrode and the object being 35-115 mm to simultaneously round-off sharp edges and de-burr. The synthetic resin is preferably free of ammonium and alkali and alkaline earth metal cations, and may be an oil-modified phthalate or alkyd resin. A lacquer additive such as finely powdered or precipitated filler e.g. SiO 2 or CaCO 3 , and/or a non-hydrolyzing aid e. g. a Mn naphthenate or an octoate may be present in the coating bath. The lacquer in the bath is preferably circulated, and any adhering mechanically to the object after its emergence may be washed off and then the coated object stoved e.g. at 200-220‹ C.
