A racking device for the guide bar of a warp machine comprises means for pre-selecting the extent of the next racking movement to be effective. In one embodiment the guide bar 4 is racked by member 1 having arms 1a, b connectable to adjusting element 2. While the guide is swinging between the needles it is clamped, by clamp 11, and the arms disengaged. The position of element 2 in relation to eccentrics 20 is adjusted by a control 3. When the arms are re-engaged with the element, one of the rotating eccentrics moves the element and hence the guide, a predetermined extent, depending on the spacing of the end of the element and the eccentric. In a modification the member 1 is driven by oscillating drive member (30, Fig. 3, not shown), yieldably mounted between springs 38-39, which moves it a predetermined extent until element 2, which it entrains, strikes a fixed stop (28).
