PREPARATION OF PETROLEUM FILLERS FOR INCREASING SOFTENING PT. OF RESINS. M4-. consists of subjecting a naphtha fraction boiling at 93-260 degrees C obtained by cracking at 593-845 degrees C in the presence of water vapour (0-95 moles %), to a distillation to separate a 1st bottom fraction boiling above 210 degrees C and fraction at the head boiling below 210 degrees C. The latter is then distilled to separate a second bottom fraction boiling at 143-210 degrees C and a fraction at the head boiling below 143 degrees C. The latter fraction is distilled to separate a third fraction at the head of 5C-6C hydrocarbons and a bottom fraction containing 7C and higher hydrocarbons. The second bottom fraction and the third head fraction, after removal of cyclodienes and isoprene from the latter, may each be separately contacted with a Friedel-Crafts catalyst at -29 degrees to +93 degrees C in order to obtain the resin.
