Apparatus for moving newly formed glassware articles onto a continuously moving conveyor

Pairs of glass articles G, G are moved from a dead plate 12 of a forming machine (not shown) on to a conveyer 10 by a member 60. The latter is connected to links 52 mounted on respective pivots on a part 14 which is rotatable about a vertical axis 16. The lever 50 has an extension coupled to a piston 42 of a pneumatic cylinder motor 40. Ports 38, 43, connecting bottom and top spaces of the cylinder 40 are connected to pressure air by phase registry of the ports as the part 14 rotates relative to ports in a fixed part 15 of the apparatus. Rotation of the part 14 is brought about by a cam 22 acting on a follower 24 connected to chain gearing 28, 30 with a chain 32 and spring 34 providing return movement. The arrangement is such that the member 60 commences from a retracted position (dash lines in Fig. 1) and is projected into engagement with the articles G, G on the dead plate 12. During this movement the height of the member 60 varies slightly as shown by arrows indicating the path in Fig. 3. This is to minimize the possibility of overturning the articles G, and is brought about by the geometry of the linkage 50, 52. The member 60 is then turned through 90 degrees to transfer the articles G, G, on to the conveyer (Fig. 2) and finally retracted and rotated back 90 degrees to recommence the cycle.
