In a ring frame a rail 7 on vertically movable slides 9 is provided with forks 8 to raise and loosen full cops 4 on their spindles 2, the slides 9 being supported on a flexible hose 13 extending along the machine and a pipe 19 being provided to supply compressed air to and vent air from the hose thus inflation of the hose 13 carries the cops to be lifted and loosened. As shown the chains 5 which operate the ring rail 6 are engaged by a piston 24 so that the ring rail can be lifted clear before the fork rail is lifted. In Fig. 1 not shown the fork rail is provided with buffers to lift the ring rail as the fork rail is raised. Limit switches and time delay relays are used to operate the valves 20, 23 in the desired sequence. The pressure hose may be a polyester fabric which is internally rubberised.
