[Also n Division G2] The invention comprises a hydroquinone silver halide developing agent precursor wherein at least one of the hydroxy groups of the hydroquinone has been esterified to form a hydrolysable aliphatic acyloxy radical comprising a quaternary ammonium group. The compounds may be prepared by reaction of the corresponding haloacyl esters with a compound containing a tertiary amine group.
