1,162,813. Endless conveyers; feeding cigar mouthpieces. MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd., G. F. PEMBROKE, J. G. E. HILLMAN, and J. E. NEW. 15 Sept., 1966 [16 Sept., 1965], No. 39623/65. Headings B8A and B8S. A pair of elements 33 are so spaced apart as to receive the flattened ends of cigar mouthpieces M between them and lead them to a reservoir formed by a number of parallel conveyers 7 which provide a sinuous path. As shown, the mouthpieces M in random order in a hopper 1 are picked up by receptacles arranged in two circumferential rows (16), (17) (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown), in a rotating disc (15) in the base of the hopper. As the receptacles come round to an open part of the hopper (12, 13) they fall on to a pair of conveyer tracks each formed by a pair of endless bands 3, 3. The spacing of each pair of bands is such that the flattened end only of the mouthpiece can fall between the bands. Three flaps (25) throw back into the pile 20 in the hopper, any mouthpieces lying on top of the correctly oriented ones in the receptacles. A member (14) prevents mouthpieces in the pile, falling between the ends 12, 13, of the hopper wall. The two conveyer streams are combined into one on a conveyer 5 by the action of an oscillating stop-member 41 actuated by a rotating member 35 having cam surfaces 36, 37. Two stop portions 41, 41 respectively stop the mouthpiece flow of each conveyer 3, 3, alternately. In a modified arrangement (Fig. 7, not shown), the stop portions 41, 41 are replaced by pads on respective camactuated arms. The conveyers 7 lead to an output shoot 9. In one form (Fig. 10, not shown) this may turn the mouthpieces M through 90 degrees.
