1,127,803. Hot axle box detector. TESLA, NARODNI PODNIK. 2 May, 1966, No. 19198/66. Heading B7N. In an arrangement for recording the presence of overheated axle bearings on trains, a printed record is provided indicating the time of train passage, the side of the train on which the overheated axle bearing occurs and its axle count from the front of the train. When the first axle of a train is detected by wheel detector MS, a circuit VO is energized to remove the shutters from infra-red radiation detectors Pz1 and Pz2 disposed one on each side of the track in a position to scan the axle bearings and also to apply a start output signal to a relay 02. This relay has an armature 02T which is formed at one end as a pad which moves a tape record pSP1/SP into printing contact with time recording elements 102H (hours) and 102M (minutes) driven from clock H via relay 01 and ratchet mechanism 01T, 101H. The wheel detector pulses are applied via unit Hz to a relay 03 which via its armature 03T actuates a ratchet mechanism including a wheel 308 which is coupled to counting and recording elements 301, 302 and 303 counting units, tens and hundreds respectively. The outputs of the infra-red detectors Pz1 and Pz2 are applied to amplitude differentiating and gating circuits in circuit Hz and when a predetermined threshold is exceeded indicating a hot bearing the associated gate is opened and a pulse is applied to either relay 04 or relay 05. Each relay is provided with an armature including a pad whereby L or R is printed on the tape record to indicate the side of the train on which the bearing appears and additionally a relay 06 is energized. This relay includes an armature pad which moves the tape into printing contact with recording elements 301- 303 to record the axle position from the front of the train and in addition closes contacts to energize a first lead 06K1 which actuates a relay 07 to move the tape forward by one position and a second lead 06K2 which operates an alarm circuit (not shown). Any further hot bearings are recorded in a similar manner. When the supply of wheel detector pulses ceases indicating the train has passed, unit VO issues a step pulse which picks up relay 08 and this is held via a circuit through contacts 108K4 which can be opened by a lug 311 positioned on recording element 301. This hold circuit energizes a pulse generator 09 which supplies stepping pulses to motor 103 to rotate the recording elements back to zero, in addition a further motor 104 is energized via contacts 08K2 and 08K3 to move a printing ribbon T to a new position. During return of recording element 301 to zero a further lug 310 operates a further set of contacts 108K2 for a short period of time during which approximately 4 pulses from generator 09 are applied to relay 07 to advance the paper tape P1 by four steps. As the recording element 301 reaches zero, lug 311 opens contacts 108K4, relay 08 is released and the apparatus is in readiness for the next train. The arrangement thus provides a record of train passage time, the number of any hot bearing encountered and the side of the train on which it appears.
