1,128,573. Testing hydraulic circuits. STALLAVAL TURBIN, A.B. April 19, 1967 [July 14, 1966], No. 18004/67. Heading F1P. In an hydraulic circuit wherein the output from a pump 2 is supplied through a line 1 to a servomotor 3 arranged, when pressurized, to maintain open a stop valve (not shown) in the steam supply line to a turbine driving an electrical generator having overspeed monitors 4-7 which are operable if the turbine speed becomes excessive to cause actuation of associated slide valves 8, 9 and consequential collapse of pressure in the line 1, a test circuit is provided whereby the correct functioning of the monitors can be tested without causing the servomotor 3 to be de-pressurized. As shown, the overspeed monitors are arranged in pairs 4, 5 or 6, 7 and each has an identical and separate test circuit. Each test circuit comprises a by-pass line 13, 14 containing a by-pass valve 15 and a pressure actuated relay valve 18 having a line 27 leading to a test lamp 28. The valves 15, 18 are normally in the positions shown, in which the pump pressure in the line 1 is fed through branch lines 26, the relay valves 24 and the lines 27 to cause the lamps 28 to be extinguished. If the functioning of the monitors 4, 5 is to be tested the appropriate by-pass valve 15 is manually operated to cause the line 13 to be pressurized. Pressurization of line 13 acts through a line 16 to cause the relay valve 18 to changeover, thus depressurizing the line 27 and lighting the lamp 28. The lighting of the lamp 27 is arranged to send an electrical signal to the actuation device of the monitor 5 to thereby cause the slide valve 9 thereof to changeover. Although the monitor 5 has been operated, the supply to the servomotor is maintained from the line 13. As a result of fluid from line 1 having to flow through the lines 14, 13, pressure in the line 16 falls, so that the relay valve 18 is returned to its former position by pressure in a branch conduit 17. The changeover of the valve 18 causes, firstly, the lamp 28 to be extinguished, and secondly, a signal to be sent to the monitor 4 which consequently changes over, to thereby exhaust pressure from the conduit 17. Hence the relay valve 18 is again changed over causing re-lighting of the lamp 28. Assuming both monitors are operating satisfactorily the sequence continues with the alternating lighting and extinguishing of the lamp 28 until finally the by-pass valve receives a signal causing it to return to its original position.
