The bags are made from a folded plastics foil which is advanced intermittently by the distance corresponding to the bag width below a vertically reciprocated welding and cutting tool is provided with a device disposed laterally of the tool to lift the welded and severed bag edge out of contact with the movable side of the welding and cutting tool.
