1,215,760. Reciprocating pumps and motors. MATAIRCO S.A. Nov.5, 1968 [July 26, 1968], No.52397/68. Headings F1A and F1M. A pump piston 1 is intergal with a motor piston 19 and is reciprocated by alternately connecting, via a gas distributer, the motor chamber 24 with compressed air from a feed orifice 62 and exhaust through a chamber 63 and silemer 64, while constantly supplying the annular chamber 25 with compressed air from feed orifice 26, the chamber 22 being permanently connected to exhaust through air orifice 23. The gas distributer is controlled by the piston 19 at its end positions, by abutment of a sleeve 29 with a ring 68 and a shoulder 69 on a control rod 28 which carries a spring-loaded valve 48 and is formed with a valve 45 moving within a slide valve 32. The air passages through the distributer are such that, at the beginning of the suction stroke Fig. 1, the valve 45 is seated by air supplied to chamber 54 via passages 35a, 35b, 43 and the valve 48 is unseated thereby opening chamber 24 to exhaust via the silencer 64. The piston ascends due to pressure in annular chamber 25 until the sleeve 29 abuts the ring 68 to move the control rod 28 upwards to unseat the valve 45 thus opening the chamber 54 to exhaust via passage 44. The slide valve 32 then ascends due to air supplied to annular chamber 36 and the chamber 24 is filled with compressed air, Fig.2 (not shown), via passage 35a, chamber 37, and passage 35c, the valve 48 following the slide valve 32 and becoming seated under the action of its spring. The piston 19 then descends on the delivery stroke until once again the valve 48 is lifted off its seat to allow exhaustion of chamber 24 and the cycle is repeated.
