Weft knitted fabrics produced on a machine with first and second needle beds by (a) forming stitches only from needles in first and second beds arranged in staggered positions, (b) building up the fabric from reports with at least four systems, (c) forming stitches in at least two of the four systems from all of the circular needles, (d) forming stitches from only the even needles in the second needle bed of the one system, pref. on all long rib needles, (e) forming stitches from only the odd needles, in the second needle bed, pref. on all short needles, (f) forming no stitches on the needles of the second needle bed of at least two remaining systems, (g) forming stitches only on the even needles of the first needle bed, pref. on all long circular needles, of one of the remaining systems, (h) forming stitches only on the odd needles of the first needle bed, pref. on all short circular needles, of the other remaining system, or (i) forming stitches only on the even or on the odd needles of the first needle bed of the two remaining systems.
