Administration is carried out by spraying into the teats of the mammary gland, or the uterus or vagina of the ruminant, the therapeutic agent in an excipient which will form a foam having 20 to 20 times the volume of formulations conventionally administered by syringe or flexible tube.. The formation is sepcif. prepared by forming an oil-water emulsion contg. the therapeutic agent, and filling this into an aerosol container, which is pressurised by a mixt of CCL2F2 and butane. The proportions of the propellant gas are adjusted to give it the same density as the emulsion, and the preferred proportions are 55% of CCl2F2 and 45% of butane. When the compn is administered, the propellant gas immediately expands to form a foam consisting of minute bubbles, which penetrates the treatment site completely. The compn does not give rise to a sensation of cold when used.
