An endless length of textile material is passed in sinuous form through a liquid containing U-shaped passage 3 which is wider on the outlet side 3b than on the inlet side 3a and which is formed by an outer container 1 and an inner member 2 having a plurality of liquid inlets 12, outlets 13 and supply channels 11 and a pump 14 for circulation of liquid through the passage 3. The width of the outlet side may be 1.5-2 times that of the inlet side. Folding may be effected by feeding from a reel 4 onto a reciprocating device 9, on a J- shaped device, Fig. 3 or 4, not shown, or by folding on the upper surface of the member 2, Fig. 5, not shown. Reel 4 may be oval, Fig. 6, not shown. For treatment with liquid at high temperature and pressure a closed apparatus may be employed, Fig. 7, not shown.
