In an apparatus for making H2, e.g. for delivery to a fuel cell 10, 12, by steam reforming a hydrocarbon fuel, H 2 -containing gas is recycled from a point downstream of the reactor 24 to the input of a boiler 40 for the hydrocarbon feed, the vaporized feed being passed via a desulphurizer 42 and condenser 44 to a boiler 18 for water. H 2 S is removed in the condenser 44 where the feed is largely reliquefied, for mixing with water prior to entering the boiler 18. Fig. 1 is self-explanatory. Several modifications are described and illustrated, all concerned with the connections downstream of the reactor 24.
