A prefabricated building is erected on a foundation 32 with the interposition of screw jacks 33 to compensate for subsidence, the jacks acting on a base part 23 co-operating with a sealing 38. A series of jacking points are disposed underneath the building including the partition walls thereof, see Figs. 2 and 5 (not shown). Access is obtained to the jacks beneath the external walls through removable facia boards 42.
