[Also in Division A5] Novel dialkyl thio- and dithio-phosphonoacetylhydrazides having the general formula wherein R and RSP1/SP are lower alkyl radicals having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, X and XSP1/SP are oxygen or sulphur, and RSP2/SP and RSP3/SP are hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, formyl or acetyl radicals or in combination are ethylidene or methylene, are prepared either by means of the following reaction wherein RSP4/SP is a lower alkyl radical having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, or according to the reaction wherein M is an alkali metal. Both reactions are preferably carried out in the presence of a solvent. The compounds of the invention possess pesticidal activity. An example describes the preparation of ethyl ethoxy phosphonodithioacetyl dimethyl hydrazide. The preparation of the intermediate N,N-dialkyl chloroacetylhydrazide hydrochloride used in the second process is also exemplified using the following reaction
