Lime kiln has a vertical shaft provided with a lime-stone feed device at the top, an air intake at the bottom zone with a fan for circulating the air upwards, and a hopper below the shaft for removal of the quicklime. Burners for the admission of a fluid fuel are provided at the level in the shaft where decarbonation of the lime-stone takes place.
