1281360 Resonance absorption spectroscopy PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 29 Aug 1969 [4 Sept 1968] 43163/69 Heading G1A [Also in Division H1] Negative-going pulses at a frequency of 1000 Hz from a generator 28 are applied sequentially by a ring circuit 29 to sputtering electrodes 22, 23, and 24 e.g. of Cu, Fe, and Ni in a spectral lamp 21 (see Division H1), and the resulting radiation passed through a flame 30 into which a solution of an unknown sample is sprayed. The radiation passed by the flame is measured by a photo-cell 31 the output of which is applied through a 1000 Hz amplifier 33 to gating circuits 34, 35 and 36 connected to the sputtering electrodes 22, 23 and 24 respectively and passing signals to integrators 37, 38 and 39 connected to a reading apparatus 40 which receives a signal each time a new sample is sprayed into the flame 30 the read-out signal is registered by a graphic recorder 41. A monochromator or filter 32 may be provided if the desired resonance lines are in the vicinity of the lines of the gas filling of the lamp, e.g. in the case of Ca, Sr and W in an argon discharge.
