The invention comprises compounds of the formula wherein R represents a straight chain C 1 -C 4 alkyl group, and acid addition salts thereof. They may be obtained by reacting N-amino-2,8- dimethyl-iminobenzyl or an acid addition salt thereof with a ketone of the formula or an acid addition salt thereof and treating the reaction product with an acidic cyclization agent if necessary and, if required, converting the resulting acid addition salt into the free base or a different acid addition salt. Examples are given for the production of the compounds. Pharmaceutical compositions for enteral or parenteral administration comprise a compound of the invention together with a compatible pharmaceutical carrier. The compositions which have antiserotinin and depressant activity and are useful as sedatives and tranquillizers may be in the form of tablets, pills, powders, granules, emulsions, suspensions or solutions.
