The crossing point for a face conveyor (10) above a drift conveyor (11), as in 1284919 and with a diverter (12) for delivering coarse coil above the junction, has a sliding plate (25) under the opening (17) through the face conveyor. The latter diverts the falling fire coal (30) onto the drive conveyor below. - The sliding plate is connected to the diverter by means of a telescopic pair of cylinders 27), so that the gap can be progressively shifted to one side of the drift conveyor underneath. This gives a larger distance for the deflection of the material which falls onto the plate. The connection includes a sliding arm each side of the face conveyor supporting the diverter.
