1284018 Carrier frequency generators; frequency multipliers LICENTIA PATENTVERWALTUNGS-GmbH 10 Aug 1970 [12 Aug 1969] 38415/70 Headings H3T and H4R In a method of producing a harmonic of a fundamental frequency, e.g. for use as a carrier frequency in a carrier frequency system, the fundamental frequency is converted to a square wave or pulse stream of the same fundamental frequency and applied to a selection device, e.g. a tuned circuit, tuned to the desired harmonic and which shifts the phases of the adjacent harmonics in opposite directions by the same amount so that they appear as modulation, at the fundamental frequency, of a carrier at the desired harmonic frequency. The resulting signal is then converted to a square wave at the required frequency by amplitude limiting, triggering, or gating; which removes the modulation. The process may be repeated to improve the purity of the required frequency. The harmonic selector is suitable for realization as a printed or integrated circuit.
