1318403 Universal rolling mills MOELLER & NEUMANN GmbH 3 Sept 1970 [18 Oct 1969] 42266/70 Heading B3M A universal rolling mill stand comprises vertical and horizontal main rolls 14-17 and pairs of edging rolls 19-22 driven from a common drive 24 through speed responsive, clutches 47, 48. The edging rolls downstream of the mill stand for rolling in either direction are driven and the other edging rolls are withdrawn by rapid screwdowns 23. The clutches are of the unidirectional freewheel slipping type which allow freewheeling of the rolls when the speed of the rolled product exceeds a certain value and which slip below this speed. The motor drive 24 is connected to a common gear 40 engaged with spur gears 38, 39 through intermediate gears 36, 37. The edging rolls 19-22 are mounted in chocks 18 slidable in stand extensive 11a, 12a which may be cast with or bolted to the stand.
