Imides are prepared by reacting an amine with a cyclic acid anhydride, separating the amine acid and dehydrating with a dehydrating agent. In Examples 1-6, N-(4- anilinophenyl):- acrylamide, -maleamic acid, - maleimide, -cinnamide, -crotonamide and itaconamic acid are prepared.
