1323305 Checking for distortion of vehicle bodies VOLVO AB 20 Oct 1970 [22 Oct 1969] 49734/70 Heading G1M A device for checking and measuring a vehicle body under repair on a repair base includes two parallel rails 2 having indexing points for positioning a support 5, 7, on which the vehicle can be placed in an accurately determined position relative to the rails and index points and a checking jig 10 having one or more checking points 14 which is mounted on the rails for movement therealong and is adapted to be secured to the rails by localizing means, the distance between the index points and the localizing means measured along the rail being so selected that a measuring point on a vehicle placed on the support is located vertically above the checking point concerned when the frame of the vehicle is accurately straightened. As described a vehicle body 1 is supported on trestles 5, 7 and anchored by chains 8 to floor fittings 9. Trestles 5 are attached to the rails 2 in a position from which distances of points of the vehicle body are measured. A movable straightening apparatus 4 runs on rail 3 and can be locked to the rail in any desired position to effect straightening of the body. Fig. 10 (not shown) is located by pins (11) Fig.3 (not shown) in holes in the rails 2, the position of the holes being determined by the type of vehicle. The jig comprises a trestle with ports (13) which are telescopic and movable in the longitudinal direction of the trestle to suit the vehicle being straightened. Ports (13) carry checking points or needles 14 which, in use, are so positioned relative to the fixed points 6 on the rails that measuring points (16) on an undistorted vehicle body would just engage them.
