Reduction of ores and ore concentrates using a plasma arc

Apparatus for the carbothermic reduction of ores and ore concentrates in which an ore anode is volatilised by the action of a high intensity arc placed between the anode and cathode. The cathode is an electrode which is part of a plasma generator of the axial type obliquely disposed to the axis of the anode and which includes a tuyere to stabilise the electric arc. The non-consumable cathode greatly increases the capacity of the apparatus and also increases the volatilisation of the anode.
