Cellulose from pith-and marrow-containing - fibrous matter

The raw material (e.g. from palm trees) is disintegrated, classified by flotation on water, to separate fibres with and without marrow-cells. The marrow-free fibres are digested (preferably with 2-25% NaOH at 40 degrees C to the boiling point) pulped and washed. This method overcomes the difficulties of bark removal in trees like the palm, where there is no sharp division between bark and wood.
