Electrical control device for automatic regulation of the individual displacement of the electrodes in an arc furnace supplied with a.c., in which the principal input magnitude is the phase displacement angle between the voltage and current vectors while the output magnitude delivered in the form of an undirectional potential of amplitude proportional to the phase displacement angle is amplified by an Eccles-Jordan type bistable oscillator with voltage input and current output to an operational amplifier acting as an integrator. Alternatively the device may have a secondary input magnitude which is a function of current intensity in the electrode control circuit. Use applies esp. to steel prodn.
