Prestressing cables 9 to 16 are embedded in the partitions. A float 22 supports pipes 21, 23 for transfer of the hydrocarbons to or from a ship. Gases can escape through a conduit 19a. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), three hollow columns are disposed triangularly in plan and support a common platform. In each of two other embodiments, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), a single column is provided and compartments therein can be flooded to facilitate sinking of the reservoir in an upright position.
