Apparatus for testing density distribution of colour separation positives prior to printing comprises a plurality of side by side positions for positives such as cyan 4, magenta 5 and yellow 6, respectively, and image transfer means, and filter means consisting of reflecting mirrors 8, 9, 10, semi-reflecting mirrors 12, 13 and fully reflecting mirror 11 speced directly below a viewing aperture 7, and in front of which are placed a blue filter 14 and cyan filter 15, the backs of the mirrors 12, 13 being coated with magenta and yellow filters respectively, so that a multi-colour image is seen through the aperture 7. The positives 4, 5, 6 which are mounted on a white backing sheet and supported by a sheet of glass 3 are illuminated from below by lamps (not shown). Mirror 13 reflects blue light from filter 14 into viewing aperture 7, mirror 12 reflects cyan light to mirror 13 whose yellow backing surface allows only green light to pass, and mirror 11 reflects white light towards aperture 7 but only red light passes to aperture 7 as green and blue light components are removed by filters on the backs of mirrors 12 and 13 respectively.
