[Also in Division B5] A machine for applying the margin of a plastics facing sheet to the edge of the component, such as a door, to which the sheet has been laminated, comprises a heater for softening the margin of the facing sheet and one or more flexible tubes to which pressure fluid is applied to cause them each to trap a margin of the facing sheet around the edge of the component and press it against that edge. Pressure pads 500, 501 are applied by respective rams to the end of the workpiece, the pad 501 being shaped as shown, and incorporating a spring-loaded blade by which the marginal edges of the facing sheets are pushed into a slot in the workpiece, to which glue has preferably been applied. Prior to the operations described, the workpiece is fed to the work station by a conveyer and rollers 223; is accurately located by rollers 405 on a ram-actuated beam 406; and is clamped in position by a ram-actuated clamp 400. Where the workpieces are long, e.g. doors, the beams, e.g. 241, Fig. 21, carrying the various pressure-applying devices may be guided at their ends by rollers, e.g. 304, 333, which are adjustable to enable their movements to be accurately determined, and preferably spring-loaded to allow for small inaccuracies in the guides &c. The method of guiding the beam 241 on guide members 302, 303 by spring- loaded rollers 304, 333 may be applied generally to machine tools.
