[Also in Division G3] Magnetic control apparatus comprises a fixed non-magnetic plate 9 of castellated cross-section with magnetic flux producing or diverting devices 14 adjustably mounted in grooves 10 of the plate 9 to co-operate with magnetic contact units 20 or other magnetically sensitive circuit control devices mounted in a movable carrier 15 with flux guides 25, 26 which extend into gaps in respective magnetizable gutters 16 which co-operate with the plate 9. The gaps in adjacent gutters 16 are offset in the direction of movement of the carrier 15 to prevent magnetic interference. The carrier 15 is mounted on a continuous belt 6 which may move in response to movement in a machine tool or milling machine part and the belt may engage in rebates 7a and 5a to provide a dust-proof chamber for the contact unit assembly. As shown, the flux producing devices each include a permanent magnet 35 and have a clamping screw 30 which forces side plates 33 against the sides of the respective groove 10. The magnet 35 is mounted in a pivoted body 36, spring- biased against a screw 34 permitting fine adjustment of the magnet position. The contact units 20 may be replaced by inductances which are influenced by magnetic masses on the devices 14 or alternatively permanent magnets may act on magnetically responsive semi-conductors.
