1346108 Fuel and lubricant additives INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE DES CARBURANTS ET LUBRIFIANTS 16 Sept 1971 [18 Sept 1970] 43288/71 Headings C5F and C5G [Also in Division C3] A polyester having one of the general formulae in which A is a bivalent saturated branched aliphatic C10-C18 hydrocarbon radical which comprises a main C2-C10 chain and at least one side chain consisting of an aliphatic saturated C6-C12 hydrocarbon group and is optionally substituted with halogen atoms, G is a bivalent saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon radical which comprises a C2-C22 chain optionally substituted with a C1-C20 saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon group, X is hydrogen or a C1-C30 acyl group, Y is hydroxy or C1-C30 alkoxy group or a monovalent C1-C30 primary or secondary amine group and n is an integer greater than 1, is prepared by reacting HOOCA-COOH, ClOC-A-COCl, RSP1/SPOOC-ACOORSP1/SP or with HO-G-OH in which RSP1/SP is a C1-C10 alkyl radical. The examples describe the reaction of 2,2,-dimethyl-1,3-propanediol (neopentyl glyctol) with a mixture of the isomeric acids 2-n-ocyl-1,11-undecanedioic and 2-n-nonyl-1,10- decanedioic acids, which may be obtained by oxo synthesis from oleic acid, the reaction mixture optionally containing dodecanoic acid or pivaloyl chloride which block the end groups of the polyester. The polyesters may be used as additives in mineral, vegetable, animal or synthetic oils and as additives for liquid hydrocarbon fuels, e.g. gasoline, kerosene, light and heavy fuels, gas-oil or heavy distillates.
