Barrier comprising a series of longitudinal elements releasably connected to each other, each being a one-piece apron of rubberised fabric, maintained vertical with a pre-determined fraction of its height submerged, by means of pairs of non-deformable floats, arranged one against either vertical face of the apron and releasably connected together, while reinforcing elements are carried on the apron at intervals and mounted vertically (transversely) and can if necessary themselves carry ballast elements, has the novel feature that each float is a hollow body of rigid material having a bottom flange such that the two floats of a pair are assembled with the flanges facing and placed against the apron, by means of a series of bolts passing through both flanges and the apron, the assembly then being restrained in a zone surrounding the coupled bases of the floats and thus completely supporting the static and dynamic stresses to which they are subjected.
