Cephalosporin cpds.:- R1, R2=H, monovalent hydrocarbon or C-bound heterocyclic gp. opt. substd. or R1 + R2 = divalent hydrocarbon gp. opt. interrupted by hetero atoms and/or substd. R3 = OH, opt. esterified in which ester O atoms opt. replaced by S, carbamoyloxy opt. N-substd. and with O-replaced by S, guanylthio, alpha-iminoalkylthio, alpha-iminoaralkythio, a s-, t- or quat. amino gp., SH opt. etherified, azide or thiosulphate gp. R4 = OH or R3 + R4 = -O- and salts, including inner salts in which R4 is negatively charged O atom and Ro contains positively charged N atom. Broad-spectrum antibacterials. Dose :500 mg/day in man.
