In apparatus for dosing activated sewage sludge proportionately to a flow of sewage water the latter is supplied by an air-lift pump 11 to a tipping bucket 6. This operates a valve 8 or electric switch (12, Fig. 2 not shown) controlling the supply of compressed air to an air lift pump 10 which doses activated sludge to a regenerating chamber in the cylinder 2 when the sludge is aerated. Thence it passes, e.g. by means of a spillway (not depicted) to be mixed with the incoming sewage water in the mixing chamber between partitions 3-4 or the flocculation chamber between partitions 3-5.
