A space frame forming the reinforcement of a concrete structure is constructed from four longitudinal angle irons (27) joined together by transverse members (9) with axes (a-a)(c-c). The vertical transverse members (9) are initially mounted in a frame (18) so that they can be gripped by jaws (7, 8) mounted on the ends of levers (1, 2). - The levers (1, 2) are attached to vertical shafts (5, 6) which carry gear wheels (12). The piston rod (13) of a pneumatic cylinder is provided with teeth which engage these gears so that movement of the piston causes the shafts (5, 6) to rotate. The rotation of these shafts swings the vertical transverse members outwards against the inner surfaces of the angle irons (27) and holds them whilst they are welded in position. The horizontal members (9) axis (c-c) are handled in a similar manner.
