Explosion welding of pipe - to clad plate

Fastening of the end of a tube at right angles in a wall which is clad, is effected by means of explosive welding resulting in the overlapping of the cladding of the tube end which is set into the plate and joining of the components by welding. By suitable selection of the diameter of the hole in the cladding, this can be made either to overlap the tube, or the tube end may be made to overlap the cladding. The method is used in heat exchanger manufacture. Being a one cycle operation it is simple, cheap, and effective.
