The chips are distributed onto the underlay by means of scattering ducts in the opposite direction to which the felt is moving whereby a sifting air flow distributed over the width of the chamber is fed in and sucked out again at the end of the chamber by means of a row of horizontal ducts arranged beneath each other in which the lowest ducts are sloped downwards from the horizontal so that the dust cannot pass into the middle layer of the felt but remains in the outer layer.
