Hand self-defence appts. has a press. cartridge above which in a headpiece is a lateral high-power nozzle for ejection of the gaseous or liq. medium in the cartridge, e.g. a narcotic or paralytic agent, in a high-press. stream. The valve actuator is secured against inadvertent operation; an actuating knob is let into the appts. in an opening beneath the headpiece and can be shut off by a safety slider which is displaceably guided on the headpiece above the knob. Preferably the lower end of the slider is raised, and the slider opens toward the headpiece. In case of need, the appts. can be released for action quickly and easily.
