Copper cladding aluminium wire - with subsequent drawing and diffusion treatment

Method of making a continuous wire of Al coated with Cu on which the Al wire is cast and drawn in known fashion in a protective gaseous atmos. and is wrapped in copper strips by bonding the strip longitudinally about the wire, and welding the edges of the tubes so formed together, characterised in that the right section of the wire is reduced by about 50% by drawing and heat treated at 300 degrees C pref. 400-548 degrees C to produce diffusion of several mu at the interface. The diffusion treatment permits the wire to be handled continuously during its subsequent manufacturing process.
