The ignition line (11) incorporates a pair of ignition electrodes (301, 302) which are connected to a high voltage produced by a coil (303). This coil is placed as close as possible to the electrodes so that the connecting line is short. The electrodes, supply heads and the coil are located in an air- and water-tight housing (14a). Fuel gas flows along its supply line (9) to the ignition line (11) via a branch connection (16b) and is then ignited in the ignition line by the coil and the electrodes. As soon as the gas is alight, the flame is conducted through the complete line and branch line to the torch heads. This obviates the necessity of using electrodes made of heat-resistant material.
