摘要
Betaine- and amine oxide-contg. surfactants with improved dermatological properties, e.g. for cosmetics, are prepd. by reacting a tert. amine with a pre-determined amount of halocarboxylic or halosulphonic acid or sultones, at 40-60 (45-55, esp. 55) degrees C, to form a desired amount of ampholytic amine (betaine). Unconverted amine is subsequently oxidised in presence of ampholyte, at 40-60 degrees C, using an oxidising agent, esp. H2O2, in an amount calculated w.r.t. tert amine. Reaction mixt. from ampholyte formation is opt. kept at pH 7-8 (7.5), with const. alkali addn., once neutral range is attained. Before ampholyte formation, reaction mixt. may be acylated, esp. with AcCL, Ac2O or benzoyl chloride, to prevent formation of undesired electrolytes.
